backspace01: seattle squares

last march (or was it feb?), on my last day in washington state, i went around the belltown area of downtown seattle. i loved the geometric patterns on the facade of apartment buildings.  the area is nice and small and i think it just covers about a 6x6 block grid. i wonder if flannel is the inspiration for this area.

letting it stew

and let it marinate in its own juices. writing things down, whatever they maybe sets things in motion, allowing them to manifest, and umm, well letting the 'universe' blend with your intentions, synchronize, sit back, relax and let it unfold. (i have not decided if my musing will be tinged by these neo-spiritual/deepak chopra-ness, but definitely  no meditation. i don't get anything done, i just fall asleep) but there is something about writing things down that make them happen. in school, it's just making an outline before your essay. with branding, it's the brand essence before a mood board and so on and so forth. or so that you just won't forget.

so what to look forward to in this blog:
1) churches: i know. a church is a church is a church. but i'm from a salesian school (and later on, jesuit), spirituality is grafted to my bones like adamantium is to wolverine. and catholicism is the source of my boyhood graphic inclinitions. seriously, stampitas galore!

2) modern architecture: influences from the industrial age, from europe's timeline of course. we are still not industrialized. i think it will be mostly about concrete barbarism.

3)post-modern architecture: glass? steel? plastic? designer buildings, celebrity architects. and dialogue. how very meta it might be.

4)my heroes: definitely along the streets of frank gehry, fred woodward, and topics from this fascinating tv feature program from the bbc called dreamspaces. these brits are just uber cool!

5)residences?: i will attempt this but there is something stalkerish about shooting people's houses and writing about them.

6)the future!: que sera, sera in the meantime. who knows.

and to grease it all, travel! you've got to walk the walk, baby!

christmas is looming. despite my workload after the 25th (ugh! i have labels to design!) i will burn rubber and take photos. good luck to me!

spacebar hopping

blog begets blog. i started blogging more than a year ago as an exercise on getting comfortable in the blogosphere and finding the right tone of voice and content in this vast open space. fittingly, i am here (in Chef Laudico's Bfast) in the Ayala triangle park writing a prologue of sorts for this 2nd blog covering my favorite subjects on architecture and typedesign while overthinking identity with all its fluid transformations. 3 points on this nice sunday morning, having breakfast a wee bit farther then my usual morning hunt from the legaspi market. It's nice and crowd friendly here in the park where a few years ago this was just another piece of ayalaland with ambiguous usage littered with some trees and shrubbery and a small running path. now it is nicely manicured with the prerequisite outdoor art pieces, more criss-crossing paths and a small strip of restaurants. usage now is shaping this space well.

Sun's out. it's a very good morning. and a pleasant start for a new project.
